The student chapter of the Wildlife Society, led by John Loegering (second from right), professor in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, traveled to Palmville Wildlife Management Area in Roseau County to maintain habitat for sharp-tailed grouse. They used hand tools to remove tamatak trees from over an acre of forested wetland that cannot be managed with conventional equipment. They were also awarded the "Golden Saw" by the Minnesota Sharp-Tailed Grouse Society for bringing the most volunteers.
