All UMC faculty and staff are invited to attend the annual Spring Thaw Social. This year's theme is "We Are Family," in reference to UMC's tight-knit campus community. Feb. 9 - City Council meet and greet

UMC will host a special meet and greet session, discussion, and campus tour with the members of the Crookston City Council Feb. 9, 5-7 p.m. UMC officials and the City Council, along with campus and city department heads, will discuss ways the campus and community can work together. At 7:30 p.m, the council will hold a regular business meeting in Bede Ballroom, Sargeant Student Center.

Feb. 10 - Community and Law Enforcement Dialogue

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to apply for UMC's specialty scholarships. The application deadline is Feb. 15. Numerous scholarships are available to both new students and returning students, who must be enrolled full time.

Jan. 29 - Visiting Fulbright Scholars presentations

The campus and community are invited to attend presentations by UMC's two visiting Fulbright scholars during the next Thursday Commons. The presentations will be an opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of both Cameroon and Macedonia, along with the chance to ask questions of these two scholars. The Fulbright Fellowship is one of the most prestigious fellowships in the world. Presentations begin at noon, Bede Ballroom, Sargeant Student Center.

Feb. 6 - 66th Western Minnesota Regional Science Fair

Students in grades 6 through 12 will compete in the 66th Western Minnesota Regional Science Fair at the University of Minnesota Crookston, Bede Ballroom, Sargeant Student Center. The science fair offers elementary and secondary students a chance to compete for scholarships, cash, and non-cash awards, along with the opportunity to advance to the state competition.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University of Minnesota Crookston among colleges and universities offering the nation's "Best Online Bachelor's Programs" for 2015. UMC was ranked No. 34 among the 215 schools in this year's survey, up from No. 64 last year.

UMC adds two new majors

Two new majors will be added to the list of academic offerings at the University of Minnesota Crookston: A major in international business will be added to the degree programs in the Business Department, and a major in English will be offered in the Liberal Arts and Education Department.

Local Foods College began Jan. 13 and will run through March 3. This 4th annual series of eight sessions is designed for gardeners and farmers who are part of the growing community-based food system. The series will be available via webinar.
