The University of Minnesota appointed Jack Miner as its inaugural vice president for strategic enrollment management, effective September 14, pending Board of Regents approval. In this new leadership role, Miner will lead University-wide enrollment strategy, technology and operations in support of student access and success.

The position was created following President Cunningham's strategic enrollment management priority initiative, which included campus visits, community engagement and a comprehensive review of enrollment data. That work culminated in the Board of Regents' approval of a University Enrollment Plan in June, calling for greater coordination across the University's five campuses to expand student opportunity and support long-term sustainability.

Miner currently serves as vice provost for enrollment management at the University of Cincinnati, where his work has consistently focused on making higher education more accessible, affordable and responsive to student needs. Notably, he helped Cincinnati grow enrollment by more than 8,000 students, increased enrollment among students from historically underrepresented populations by more than 5,000 students, expanded college access through a partnership with Cincinnati Public Schools and strengthened affordability for eligible Ohio students from families earning less than $75,000 annually.

Before joining Cincinnati, Miner spent nearly three decades at The Ohio State University, where he served as registrar and executive director of enrollment services. He is also a nationally recognized leader in strategic enrollment management, having served as president of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and as an advisor to state and federal higher education leaders on enrollment, student success, transfer pathways and higher education policy.

"Jack brings the strategic vision and collaborative leadership needed to translate the power of a University of Minnesota education to students across Minnesota and beyond," says Executive Vice President and Provost Gretchen Ritter. "His experience expanding educational opportunity and building strong partnerships across complex institutions makes him the right leader for this pivotal role."

Working alongside campus leaders, Miner will drive recruitment, admissions, financial aid and student success efforts, helping students more easily explore the educational opportunities available across the University while ensuring each campus continues to showcase its distinctive strengths.

“Minnesota needs a University that is accessible, connected and prepared to meet the needs of future students," said Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Ryan Schmiesing. "Jack's appointment is an important step toward the goals outlined in our Elevate Extraordinary strategic roadmap, which challenges us to think differently about how we serve our students.”

An early priority will be listening and learning — meeting with faculty, staff, students and campus leaders to understand local priorities and build the relationships needed to implement the University's Enrollment Plan.

"I'm honored to join a university with such a strong commitment to serving the people and long-term vitality of Minnesota,” said Miner. “Partnering with colleagues across all five campuses, I am excited to expand opportunities so every learner can find the University of Minnesota pathway that's right for them."
